Jay Cutler's high ankle sprain

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will be unable to play in today's game a

gainst the Baltimore Ravens due to an injury sustained last week. "He's got a high ankle sprain," Coach Trestman confirmed.

A high ankle sprain occurs when the ligaments that connect the leg bones (tibia and fibula) are stretched or torn. Squeezing the leg will cause pain. X-rays are taken to make sure that no fracture is present.

This injury takes longer than typical ankle sprains to heal. Initial treatment is PRICE:

  • Protection
  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Compression
  • Elevation

Rehabilitation exercises are started soon thereafter to restore range of motion, strength and function.
