What Is Tendonitis?
Tendons are strong, cord-like structures that connect muscles to bones, enabling movement and stability. An inflamed tendon is known as tendonitis. The most common forms of foot and ankle tendonitis are Achilles tendonitis, posterior tibial tendonitis, and peroneal tendinosis.
What Causes Tendonitis in the Foot and Ankle?
• Overuse or repetitive strain
• Direct injury or Trauma
• Abnormal foot structure
• Medical conditions, like diabetes and arthritis
When Should You See a Doctor?
It is best to seek medical attention as soon as possible. An arch support (orthotic), brace, physical therapy, and/or medication may be required. If untreated, tendonitis can lead to chronic pain or even tendon rupture, which may require surgery.
